Purpose of the Role
The Soup Truck Driver position is designed for individuals who are committed to both operational excellence and community impact. Your main duty will be to safely operate a soup delivery truck, transporting fresh and delicious soups to predetermined locations across Johannesburg and Mpumalanga. Alongside the driving responsibilities, you’ll engage with customers, uphold food safety protocols, and contribute to the smooth running of the food service operation.

Key Responsibilities
Driving and Delivery
- Operate a designated soup truck responsibly and safely.
- Transport soup to multiple community locations on a set schedule.
- Ensure that all food products arrive in perfect condition, complying with food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Plan and follow routes to guarantee on-time delivery, even during peak traffic or challenging conditions.
Customer Service and Community Engagement
- Be the face of Shoprite’s soup initiative—welcome and interact with customers warmly.
- Answer questions about the soups and menu options, helping customers feel informed and valued.
- Handle concerns or complaints with professionalism, ensuring every interaction is positive.
- Support the brand’s community-driven mission by fostering goodwill and trust.
Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance
- Carry out routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Keep the vehicle clean and report any mechanical issues immediately.
- Assist with light maintenance tasks and liaise with management for repairs.
Inventory and Food Handling
- Load and unload soup containers and supplies at the start and end of each route.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory and deliveries.
- Support stock management by reporting shortages or discrepancies.
- Handle food products carefully to maintain their quality and temperature.
Safety and Compliance
- Abide by all South African traffic rules and regulations.
- Wear protective gear where necessary and follow company procedures strictly.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Education
- Grade 10 or equivalent qualification.
Driving Experience
- At least 1–3 years of professional driving experience, ideally in delivery or logistics.
- Prior food service delivery or catering experience will be a strong advantage.
Licensing
- Valid Code 10 driver’s license is required.
- Professional Driving Permit (PDP) will be considered a plus.
- A clean driving record with no history of reckless driving or major offences.
Skills and Competencies
- Safe Driving Skills: Strong ability to drive medium trucks confidently and efficiently.
- Local Knowledge: Familiarity with Johannesburg and Mpumalanga routes.
- Customer Service Skills: Friendly and approachable, able to build rapport with diverse communities.
- Time Management: Ability to stick to tight schedules and adapt when routes change.
- Food Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safe food handling and hygiene practices.
- Teamwork: Willingness to work alongside kitchen and operations staff.
