The Role: Your Expertise Keeps Our World Turning

As a Millwright Artisan, you’re not just maintaining equipment — you’re ensuring the smooth delivery of quality products that bring smiles to millions. This role sits at the core of our manufacturing operations, where technical mastery meets operational excellence.

You’ll be responsible for maintaining, operating, and improving key equipment across the plant. You’ll play a pivotal role in reducing downtime, enhancing safety, and supporting the ongoing innovation of our product lines. Whether it’s preventing mechanical failures or taking part in strategic equipment upgrades, you’ll be a key player in the lifecycle of every product that rolls off our lines.

This isn’t just a job — it’s an opportunity to be part of a team that takes pride in making products the world loves, using technology and teamwork to get there.

What You’ll Be Doing: A Day in the Life

Every day brings a new challenge and a new opportunity to make an impact. As our Millwright Artisan, you’ll:

Ensure Equipment Excellence

  • Independently maintain machinery at optimal conditions using Autonomous Maintenance (AM) Step 4 and Progressive Maintenance (PM) Step 3 systems.
  • Carry out a range of maintenance tasks, from routine checks to urgent breakdown repairs, all aligned with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Six Sigma principles.
  • Execute both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.

Diagnose and Solve Complex Problems

  • Lead root cause analyses to understand why issues occur — and more importantly, how to prevent them from happening again.
  • Identify patterns of equipment failure or loss, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement lasting solutions.

Lead with Integrity and Influence

  • Take ownership of maintenance during scheduled shutdowns and production stoppages.
  • Act as a technical mentor and leader for line teams, encouraging knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Navigate and manage interpersonal dynamics, especially in a unionized environment, with tact and professionalism.

Focus on Safety, Quality, and Compliance

  • Consistently adhere to safety protocols and ensure your work aligns with Ferrero’s high standards for quality and sustainability.
  • Ensure proper documentation of work completed, using SAP and other digital tools to log maintenance activities and performance insights.

What We’re Looking For: Your Skills & Experience

We’re not just looking for someone who can fix machines. We’re looking for someone who cares deeply about the details, who can lead with confidence, and who’s always eager to learn and adapt.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
  • Recognized Millwright Trade Certification with strong mechanical expertise.
  • Additional qualification in Fitting & Turning is a major plus.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment post-apprenticeship.
  • Solid knowledge of Autonomous and Preventive Maintenance techniques.
  • Computer literacy: comfortable working with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project) and SAP (experience advantageous).
  • Strong communication skills — both verbal and written.
  • Ability to influence and work effectively within a unionized workforce.

What Sets You Apart

  • You don’t just react to problems — you anticipate and prevent them.
  • You understand the importance of precision and how small mechanical details can impact the bigger picture.
  • You’re calm under pressure, whether you’re leading a shutdown or fixing an urgent fault.
  • You collaborate well with others but also take initiative independently.
  • You’re eager to grow and contribute to a business that’s always innovating.
